ProjectWise Folder Standards¶
This page defines the standard folder structure used within ProjectWise projects.
Consistent folder organization is critical for collaboration, document control, and long-term project success.
Why folder standards matter¶
Standardized folder structures:
- Improve document discoverability
- Reduce duplicate files
- Support consistent permissions
- Enable efficient reviews and audits
All users are expected to work within the approved structure.
Standard folder hierarchy¶
While specific projects may vary, a typical ProjectWise structure includes:
- 01_Admin
- 02_Reference
- 03_Working
- 04_Review
- 05_Final / Issued
Do not create new top-level folders unless explicitly instructed by the project team.
Folder usage guidelines¶
Administrative folders¶
Used for: - Contracts - Meeting minutes - Project correspondence
Do not store technical deliverables here.
Working folders¶
Used for: - Active design files - Draft documents - Ongoing coordination
Working files should be checked out when edited and checked in promptly.
Review folders¶
Used for: - Internal reviews - QA/QC submissions - Comment resolution cycles
Only upload files intended for review.
Final / Issued folders¶
Used for: - Approved deliverables - Issued-for-construction documents - Record submissions
Once files are placed here, they should not be modified unless formally revised.
What not to do¶
- Do not create personal folders
- Do not rename standard folders
- Do not store files outside the approved hierarchy
- Do not upload duplicate copies of the same file
If you believe a new folder is required, contact the project team before proceeding.
